Sponsored by the State Intellectual Property Office and Guangdong Provincial People’s Government, the 5th China International Patent and Brand Expo and the 1st China Shunde International Industrial Design Expo (hereinafter referred to as the “Expo”) will be held at Shunde District, Foshan, Guangdong on September 19th~21st, 2008. Shunde locates at the central part of the Pearl River Delta. A modern industrial system, consisting of pillar industries such as household electric appliances, electronic communications, mechanic equipments, fine chemicals, textile and garment and furniture production, has been formed. There are 11 China’s famous trademarks like Midea, Kelon, Rongsheng, Macro, Galanz, L&S, Vanward and Country Garden and 26 China’s well-kwon brand products. In 2007, our district’s GDP was 127.93 billion yuan and the industrial output value was 324.23 billion yuan, ranking front in comprehensive strength among the cities of the same level for consecutive years. Based on Shunde’s leading manufacture industry, we promote design innovation and the development of the enterprises, speed up optimization and upgrade of Shunde’ industry and tap out new designers. The organizing Committee of the 5th China International Patent and Brand Expo and Shunde District People’s Government hold the first “2008` Creative Shunde International Industrial Design Awards”, and collect fine creative designs and new practical works from domestic and overseas enterprises, design institutes, universities and colleges, designers, design amateurs, and select fine works for show, award appraisal and matching with the enterprises during the Expo period.

4.1  Design grouping

1) Group I - household appliance: including design works for refrigerator, air conditioner, washing machine, gas water heater, electric water heater, electric fan, Wall-mounted gas boilers, drinking water dispenser, electric heater, vacuum cleaner, electric iron and hair drier.

2) Group II - household appliance: including design works for microwave oven, household sterilizer, electric rice cooker, pressure cooker, electric kettle, coffee maker, soybean milk machine, smoke exhauster, household water purifier, electromagnetic oven and gas burner.

3) Furniture and decorations group: including design works for house furniture, office furniture, public and outdoor furniture, house decorations, kitchen facilities, lights and sanitary wares.

4.2  Standard for Award Appraisal

1) Concept creation and production creation: 30 points

2) Product’s practical applicability: 25 points

3) Realization of product manufacture: 25 points

6.1  “Design- manufacture zero distance” incubation camp activities

(1) Time: August 25^th~August 29^th

(2) Form: The sponsors organize the organizer, co-sponsors and relevant enterprises of Shunde to select the works submitted while organizinig specilist judgers to carry out preliminary appraisal of the works. It shall invite authors of 30 works from the enterprises and prelimianry appraisal to take part in the incubation camp activities.

(3) Content: It shall invite famous domestic and overseas designers to give lectures respectively on “industrial design at Shunde”, “designe brand strategy”, “life form and designe”, “form, material and color”; specialists will give guidance to the designers on design; groups will go to the enterprises to deepen design workers of the participants together with the designers of the enterprises and professional design institutes.

(4) The sponsor will reimburse the expense of return traffic, meals and accommodation of the participants during the camping period.

6.2   Excellent works will be specially shown at the Expo. After the Expo, it will entrust South China Household Electric Appliances Research Institute and Shunde Furniture Research Institute to optimize and upgrade the said works that shall be promoted and transformed to enterprises so as to let enterprises know the designers and design institutes, and promote frequent exchanges and cooperation all the year round. Owner of the intellectual property rights of the design works will obtain corresponding transfer income.

6.3  If the works of a designer with own intellectual property rights have been reached trade with Shunde’s enterprise, relevant preferential policies will be given.

(1) Works to participate the contest must be the original works of the participant who should guarantee the works to have full, complete and exclusive intellectual property rights, not infringe any other patent, copyright, trademark and other intellectual property rights；such works that didn’t publish on newspaper, magazine, website and other media, didn’t apply for patent or make any copyright registration, didn’t participate other contests before and has not commercialized.

(2) It didn’t participate in other design contest or product plan offered for the third party shall not participate in the contest.

(3) It can participate in the contest in the name of a group (or a unit) but it is required to determine related right and interests and a representative should be designated.

(4) Works to participate in the contest must conform to the theme of the contest and meet the design requirements of the sponsor.

(1) Fill in the participation registration form, sign a declaration of intellectual property rights and write design description.

(2) When the works is submitted for the first time, the main diagram shall be in two-dimension, three-dimension or manual drawing while the auxiliary diagram should include a computerized three-dimensional diagram with dimensions. Each works should be made in one standard page. The size shall be 42cm X 58cm and accuracy shall not be lower than 300dpi. In case of a material object (model), photo is required.

(3) Works can be submitted through the website (document is within 30M). It may be submitted by post in the form of disc in JPG form.

(4) It encourages excellent graduation design works of universities to participate in the contest. Any works with material object and model will be selected in priority.

(5) Participant of any design works that passes the preliminary appraisal may be required to further provide related information.

(6) For partial excellent works, the sponsor has right to make model for the purpose of display, appraisal and trade.

(7) Participants of partial works will be invited to take part in the design incubation camp in Guangdong, Expo activities (including award-giving ceremony), works trade discussion, post product application for registration, incubation and transfer.

The organizing committee will invite well-known domestic and overseas specialists to be judging members. Concrete list of judges will be published on the website soon.

Deadline for works collection: July 25^th, 2008

Pre-show of works: August 1^st~5^th, 2008

Preliminary appraisal of the works: August 6^th, 2008

Design – manufacture incubation camp: August 25^th~29^th, 2008

Final appraisal: August 30^th, 2008

Result publication: August 31^st, 2008

Works show: September 19^th~21^st, 2008 (Shunde Exhibition Center)

11.1  The nature of this contest belongs to works collection activity. Any participants who sign participating agreement and submit works to the organizing committee of the contest are deemed to submit contribution plans. Intellectual property rights, works’ patent application right and ownership of any works that wins contest award or is selected to participate in the incubation camp activities and any works that is accepted by the sponsor belong to the sponsor, and the sponsor will give bonus and citation. Author can reserve the signature right of participating the exhibition, publication and academic study.

11.2  Contest organizing committee advocates and assists government authoritative department to protect the intellectual property rights, invite professional patent application agency to provide service. For any works outside of paragraph 12.1, if the author needs to apply for patent, the author should bear agent application charge, and the intellectual property rights belongs to the author. The sponsor reserves the right of participating the exhibition, publication and academic study.

11.3  When the participant infringes the right during design and participation of the contest, there is nothing to do with the sponsor; as long as the chosen and rewarded works is found plagiarism or other infringement of rights, the sponsor will cancel the qualification of participation, selection and award, withdraw bonus and award, and publish the infringement of right on related media.

11.4  The contest sponsor is entitled to publicly show, print, publish and promote the works without any authorization of the participants and enterprises. However, any institutes and individuals shall not copy, publicly show, publish and promote the works without consent of the author, owner of the intellectual property rights and contest sponsor.

12.1  The sponsor reserves the right to accept or refuse participation application. If necessary, the sponsor has the right to revise the appraisal standards.

12.2  In case of any dispute on award result, the final appraisal result shall prevail.

12.3  The sponsor reserves the right of final interpretation of the contest.
